The Year of the Dog!

Chinese New Year (also known as Spring Festival) begins on February 16, 2018. This is the year of the Dog!

The dog is an honest and idealistic sign, known for selflessness, service and protection. Likewise, the year that bears its name will bring increased social awareness and a desire to help protect those less fortunate.

This year, worry less about material gain and more about serving others, for that is where we will find true happiness and fulfillment.

If you were born in any of the following years, this is YOUR YEAR. And it would seem that by nature, you are a really good person!

1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

Because Chinese New Year is always mid February, if you were born in the first half of the month, you are actually grouped with the previous year.

We will continue to donate 25 cents per pound for all weight loss in our clinic to All Faiths Food Bank. It’s starting to add up! In the last months we’ve been able to donate $1,643. I wish I had thought of doing this when we first launched the weight loss program back in 2009, as there have now been a total of 62,714 pounds lost! To all of you who have been through our program, thank you for eating less so that someone in need can have a little more.

I asked Facebook friends for suggestions of other not-for-profits that could use some volunteers during the Year of the Dog. (By the way, I would love to be your Facebook friend if I’m not already – just send me a friend request).

Of course, if you don’t have time to volunteer, these organizations could always use cash donations. Here are some of the suggestions I received in the order they came in:
